I grew up in Buffalo, NY and I still appreciate a good snowfall. My parents tricked me into attending Cornell University (thankfully) where I studied communication, writing, and design. The communication program’s focus was on the psychology of communication, how people process information, and the science of communication.

I took that early training in a variety of directions.

I worked in employee communications at a nuclear waste facility. I worked in publishing in Boston, both trade and educational, designing books and textbooks. I worked in internal marketing departments and for an advertising agency in San Francisco focused on the tech industry. I worked as an independent marketing consultant in Portland, helping a wide variety of businesses and nonprofits with their marketing strategy and execution — B2B and B2C, products as well as services. And most recently, I’ve been working with early stage companies as their first marketing hire, the person to define, launch, implement, and develop their entire marketing and communications strategy from the ground up.

I have always been fascinated by the power and the process of communication. I love the art and science of crafting a specific message for a specific channel to reach a particular audience; to reach the right people, resonate and evoke emotion, and move them to action.
